Dave was signed as 15 year old apprentice, the winger from Barnstaple, had had a trial with Plymouth Argyle in 1964, after he had made 3 apperances for Devon Youth X1

Dave played for the youth team in the FA Youth Cup in November 1966 against Torquay and Plymouth.
He made his debut against Torquay United in December 1965, in the Wessex Youth League. 
He also played at Outside-right for Exeter City Youth against Bristol City Youth on 17/5/66 in the Wessex League Cup Final.

Dave played as a substitute for Exeter City against Frome in the Western League in September 1966.

He was assistant manager of Barnstaple Town in 1980, and later their manager
