1966 Broom, David
David Broom was with Exeter City for three years in the mid-1960s and was an apprentice for part of this time.
He made appearances for the club in the FA Youth Cup, Western League, Exeter & District League and various youth competitions. On leaving St James' Park, he had a brief trial with Plymouth Argyle and later played for both Elmore and Tiverton Town.
Contacting the Grecian Archive in October 2021, David explained his story:
“I was signed by Ellis Stuttard before he left City in 1965 and, in three years at St James'Park he was followed by Jock Basford and the return of the return of Frank Broome. Leaving City I went to Plymouth Argyle, then under Billy Bingham, but returned home to Tiverton and played for Elmore where I teamed up with a certain Dermot Curtis. Whilst there we won the 1972 East Devon Senior Cup by beating Dawlish Town 3-2 at St James' Park. Then I moved across to Tiverton Town to play with my old friend Alan Banks. Dermot and Alan were two great players."
