David was a youth player who played against Arsenal in the FA youth Cup. He had played with the under-17's in 1994/95, playing for Exeter in the Devon and Exeter Youth League.

He played 16 matches in the South West Counties Youth league and Cup in 1995/96 and 19 matches, scoring 19 times in the Devon and Exeter Youth League in the same season.

He played 20 matches and scored 4 goals in the South West Counties Youth league in 1996/97.
