Biographical Text
Goalkeeper Mark Stevens had appeared in the Football League for Swindon Town when he featured for Exeter City in a hastily-arranged trial match in October 1983.
Starting as a youth player with Bristol City, he had moved to Swindon Town where he made a single league appearance during 1982/83. Seeking a way back into the professional game, he was with Trowbridge Town when he appeared for Exeter City in a friendly at Bideford in October 1983 as one of a large group of trialists as manager Gerry Francis desperately sought new players.
Returning to Trowbridge, and picking up the threads of a non-league career that had started with Portway Bristol around the time he was leaving school, Mark went on to play for Yate Town, Gloucester City, Mangotsfield Utd, Clevedon Town and Weston-super-Mare. He was also registered on a non-contract basis for Bristol Rovers.
