Lee was a trialist from Frickley Athletic who played for Exeter City’s reserves early in the 1998/99 season. He had been with Nottingham Forest earlier in his career.

Left-back Lee was twenty-two at the time of his unsuccessful trial with Exeter and returned to South Yorkshire to have several spells with Frickley over a fifteen-year period both as a player and a coach. He also played for Stalybridge Celtic and had management roles with Boston United, Google and Cleethorpes Town.
