A centre-half who played for Exeter City under-18s in the first season of the FA Youth Cup in 1952/53 when the Grecians beat Pinewood Youth Swindon and lost to Bristol Rovers.

Continued to play as an amateur in the club's Exeter and District League side until joining the forces in October 1956.
