Played as a defender for Exeter City under-18s in the first season of the FA Youth Cup in 1952/53 when the Grecians beat Pinewood Youth Swindon and lost to Bristol Rovers.

Usually a left-back, he continued to play for the club's Exeter and District league side through until 1956 and later made appearances against City when playing for Chudleigh in the Exeter and District League.
