Roger King was from Nottingham, and had previously played for Notts County, when he signed for Exeter in August 1953. 
He played for Exeter in the practice match on the 8th of August 1953.

He Played for the reserves and made his debut against Bedford town on the 2nd January 1954 for the reserves.
