Biographical Text

A former Plymouth Argyle apprentice, Robbie had an unsuccessful trial with Exeter City before getting his second chance in professional football with Portsmouth, Bristol Rovers and Brighton in what amounted to a 316-game Football League career.

Released by Argyle at the age of eighteen, he had been playing for Saltash United when he appeared as a trialist for Exeter City's reserves against Torquay United in the midweek Football Combination. With City not offering him a contract, Robbie soon signed for Weymouth and, from there, enjoyed a career in the Football League with Portsmouth (189 league appearances) Bristol Rovers (63) and Brighton & Hove Albion (64).

Remaining on the South Coast for a while, Robbie played for Havant & Waterlooville and Horndean before returning to Tavistock where he had a stint as player-coach of his hometown club.
