H. Simms

He was an amateur who played for the Reserves at Exeter in 1909/10. He was stationed at Topsham Barracks and was in the Army. He was a centre-half who played and scored in a friendly at Torquay on the 13th October 1909, City won 11-2.

He became a Lieutenant in the Hampshire Regiment and played at half back for the 1st Battalion of the same regiment. He had also played for Hampshire County and Ryde.

He had been commissioned "from the ranks" in March 1915 and was wounded in action at the Battle of Loos in January 1916.
