Ciarán Quinn had trials with Exeter City when he was still at school in Dublin and played in the Devon and Exeter Youth League and the South West Counties Youth League during the school holidays in the 1998/99 season. He later enjoyed a long career in the League of Ireland.

Unable to agree a training contract with the club, he became part of the St Patrick's Athletic youth set-up. Enjoying several spells as a first-team player with St Pat's, he also appeared for Kilkenny City, Drogheda United, Dundalk, Monaghan United, UCD, Glenavon and Shelbourne.
