Stanley Walsh was a hugely unfortunate inside-left from Southampton who was invited to St James' Park for a trial in February 1910 with a view to being offered professional terms. Playing for the reserves in the Plymouth and District League against the Royal Marines on 5 February 1910, he scored City's goal in a 2-1 defeat and exhibited some 'clever touches'. 

Late in the game he suffered a broken leg that ruled him out of the rest of the season and no more was heard about him joining City.
