Robert was a trialist from Fleet in Hampshire, he has been an apprentice at Southampton, making his debut for Exeter City in the Devon and Exeter Premier League against Budleigh Salterton on the 29th of September 1984. He scored his first goal in a 7-1 win against St Martin's in early November 1984.
