Alan Savage appeared for Exeter City's under-18s in the FA Youth Cup during 1986/87.

Having been in the same Southampton under-15 side as Matt Le Tissier in 1984, he had also been a youth player with Torquay United prior to playing for City's under-18s.

Around the time of his association with the Grecians, he played for Saltash United followed by stints with Exmouth Town and Elmore ahead of featuring in the Cheriton Fitzpaine side that won the Devon and Exeter League in 1995/96.
