James was a youth player at Exeter in 2000/01.

He was at Exeter City, with the U-16's developement squad at the Centre of Excellence in 2002/03.

After leaving Exeter, James played for Willand 2007/08, he was still playing in 2013/14 apart from a brief spell at Exmouth. He was playing for Exmouth again in 2014.
