1993
Raphael Burke
Born Bristol July 1974
Raphael played a few trial games for Exeter City in 1993 in both the Devon and Exeter League and the Football Combination.
Raphael, from Bristol, had recently left Manchester United where he had been a member of the 'Class of 92' squad. Although he had featured in some of the games, and had been capped by England at youth level, Raphael did not feature in either United’s winning FA Youth Cup team in 1992.
After not earning a contract with City, Raphael was at Yeovil Town where he made a solitary substitute appearance for the first-team. He had a short spell at Taunton Town in 1994/95 and also had a trial with Walsall.
Back in Bristol after leaving Old Trafford, Raphael worked in an office as well as on a fruit and veg stall. Much later he was an academy coach with Bristol City and was running his own coaching business working with schools and youth organisations.
Giving an interview to the Independent in 2013, and looking back to his time with Manchester United, Raphael admitted that 'I didn't have that hunger at the time. It's best I am honest about it because otherwise you end up blaming everyone else.’
