Played for Exeter City in the Devon and Exeter Youth League and in the South Western Counties Youth League in 1994/95 whilst still at school.

Later studied at the St Luke's campus of Exeter University and taught in schools in Devon and Somerset before becoming a headteacher in Bristol and a non-executive director of the Somerset FA.
