Biographical Text
Harry Lee, a goalkeeper from Torquay, was an Exeter City scholar/trainee and professional between 2021 and 2025. Sitting on the bench when at school, he made his first-team debut aged sixteen and went on to make a handful of appearances mainly in cup competitions.
Harry initially appeared for the under-18s in December 2019 shortly before his 15th birthday and had previously been an age-group player with Torquay United with the Torbay Weekly even reporting that he had been a Plainmoor season-ticket holder. Then in October 2020, whilst still a year 11 pupil at Torquay Academy, he was on the substitute's bench for the first-team for a league game against Crawley.
Repeating this role several times during the rest of the season, but without appearing on the field of play, he duly finished school in 2021 and joined Exeter City on a full-time basis before quickly making his first-team debut in the Football League Trophy against Chelsea under-21 on 24 August 2021. In the next group stage game, at Cheltenham in October 2021, Harry saved three penalties in the shoot-out to earn City a bonus point.
In his first full season Harry also played in City’s FA Youth Cup, under-23 Premier League Cup and Devon St Luke’s Bowl matches (playing for the team that lost to Bideford on penalties in the Bowl final in May 2022) whilst also gaining experience on loan with Dorchester Town (twice) and Tavistock.
Signing a professional contract in March 2022, he made a further Football League Trophy appearance in October 2022 ahead of enjoying his Football eague debut at Derby County on 25 October 2022 when he came on for the injured Jamal Blackman in the 88th minute of a 0-0 draw.
With City keen for Harry to play regular football, rather than sit for game after game as an unusued substitute, the club employed goalkeeping coach Scott Brown, Gary Woods and Shaun MacDonald over the next three seasons to perform this role whilst Harry went on loan to Dorchester Town (again) and Plymouth Parkway in 2022/23, Weston-super-Mare and Salisbury (2023/24) and Plymouth Parkway and Dorchester (for a fourth time) in 2024/25.
This resulted in a stop-start period for Harry as he was invaraibly recalled from loans to provide cover for the club's other keepers. And, with Shaun MacDonald taking the jersey for Football League Trophy games, Harry's appearances for the Grecians were restricted to the Premier League Cup and the Devon St Luke's Bowl. Having helped Dorchester to the Southern League play-offs in May 2925, but not having appeared for City's first-team since November 2022, Harry declined the offer of a new contract and left St James' Park in July 2025.
