Biographical Text

Harry Lee, a goalkeeper from Torquay, sat on the bench for City first-team games whilst still at school and made his first-team debut aged sixteen. Signing as a scholar/trainee in 2021, and as a full professional in March 2022, Harry gained experience on loan with various non-league clubs alongside appearing for City in cup competitions.

Harry first appeared for the under-18s in December 2019 shortly before his 15th birthday. He had previously been an age-group player with Torquay United with the Torbay Weekly even reporting that Harry had been a season-ticket holder at Plainmoor. Then, in October 2020, whilst still a year 11 pupil at Torquay Academy, Harry was on the substitute's bench for Cthe first-team against Crawley. This was a role he repeated many times in 2020/21 without appearing on the field of play. Harry duly finished school in 2021 and joined Exeter City on a full-time basis quickly making his first-team debut in the Football League Trophy game against Chelsea under-21 on 24 August 2021. In the next group stage game, at Cheltenham on 5 October 2021, Harry saved three penalties in the shoot-out to earn City a bonus point.

In his first full season Harry played in City’s FA Youth Cup, U23 Premier League Cup and Devon St Luke’s Bowl matches (playing for the team that lost to Bideford on penalties in the Bowl final in May 2022). Harry’s first experience on loan was to Dorchester Town in October 2021, with later spells at Tavistock and at Dorchester again, although it became a pattern for Harry to be recalled early because of an issue with one of the club’s other goalkeepers. Later in the season, in March 2022,  City announced Harry had signed a full professional contract keeping him at the club "for the foreseeable future.”

Harry went on loan twice during 2022/23: firstly to Dorchester Town in an arrangement cut short when Scott Brown went to Rotherham United as goalkeeping coach; the second to Plymouth Parkway that ended with Harry being recalled to St James' Park following an injury to Gary Woods. In between Harry had made his Foorball League debut on 25 October 2022 at Derby County when he came on for the injured Jamal Blackman in the 88th minute of a 0-0 draw.

Ahead of the 2023/24 season Harry, together with Ed James, was loaned to Weston-super-Mare and played regularly for the National League South side until his recall to St James' Park in December 2023. Back with City until the start of February 2024, he was then loaned to Salisbury at which time he had not appeared in City's first-team for fifteen months.

Having now been at St James' Park on a full-time basis for three seasons, Harry duly signed a contract extension in June 2024 through to the end of the 2024/25 campaign and - during the early stages of the new season - featured for the under-21s in the Premier League Cup whilst also embarking on another loan spell with Plymouth Parkway in October 2024.
