Biographical Text
Jason Rowbotham, brother of long-time City player and prolific goalscorer Darran Rowbotham, had appeared in the Football League with Plymouth Argyle when he had a trial at Exeter City in 1993. After playing in Scotlad he returned to Devon to play for both Plymouth and Torquay.
He signed professional terms with Plymouth Argyle in 1987 and played nine league games before leaving Home Park in 1992. Moving to Shrewsbury he failed to break into the first-team and subsequently arrived for trial at Exeter City where, somewhat ironically, he appeared for the reserves in a midweek Football Combination fixture against Plymouth Argyle in February 1993.
Not winning a contract at St James' Park, he agreed a short-term deal with Hereford United before moving to Raith Rovers for whom he played 56 league games and also appeared for the club in European competition.
Returning south in 1995, he joined Wycombe Wanderers for £40,000 before heading west again to Plymouth where he added another 51 league appearances to his career tally.
Jason subsequently made five league appearances for Torquay United meaning that, in light of his unproductive time with Grecians, he didn't quite match brother Darran's feat of appearing in the Football League with three Devon clubs.
After his brief stay at Plainmoor, he finished his career in non-league football with Weymouth and Merthyr Tydfil.
