George Gidley, brother of Fred Gidley another Exeter City amateur, made his Southern League debut for the reserves in 1952/53 and, on occasions, formed a full-back pairing with his brother. Both later played for Bideford, managed by former Grecian Ray Goddard, before moving on to Bridgwater Town.

George died on 11 March 2014.
