Len Blackmore, a goalkeeper with Newton Abbot Spurs, briefly acted as cover in Exeter City’s reserves when professional ‘keeper Alan Jones was called up for military service in October 1960.

Playing half-a-dozen times in the Western League, City made a donation to the new floodlighting system at Newton Abbot in appreciation for being allowed to borrow Len.

Newton team mate Brian Turner joined City as a professional around the same time.
