Tony played 20 games for City reserves in the Western League in 1960/61.

On Monday 15th February 1960. Exeter City added to their groundstaff.  "City have put a 15 year old local boy, Tony Irons on to their groundstaff, Irons a winger or wing half has played with the Colts all season and before that he was in Exeter junior football with Foxhayes"

He remained at Exeter City playing for the reserves in 1961/62 and 1962/63.

Tony signed for Bideford at the start of their championship winning season in 1963, he played throughout the season.

He later played for Heavitree United.
