In 1934/35 Brooking played in various positions for the reserves in the Southern League, including inside-right, centre-forward, inside left and outside left.

In 1935/36 he played as a half-back and centre-half for Exeter City Reserves in the Exeter and District league.

In the 1936/37 L. Brooking was an amateur goalie who made his debut, as a goalkeeper for Exeter City Reserves against Dawlish in the Exeter and District League on the 10/9/1936.

He played for the reserves in the Southern League and Exeter and District League in 1936/37.
