John (Jack) was a right back who was signed from Cardiff City at the start of the 1932 season. He had been at Cardiff for 5 seasons, playing 5 first team games, at one time Sundeland had offered a four figure sum for him, but he chose to stay with Cardiff City.

He played in all the trial and practice games in Exeter City's pre-season in 1931, and then played for the club in the Southern and Western League teams, throughout the season.
