Herbert Budd played for Exeter City’s reserves in the mid-1920s without making a first-team appearance. He later appeared in the Football League for Torquay United.

A Bristolian, he had played for Hanham Athletic - one of his local clubs - before playing for Exeter City’s reserves in the Southern and Western leagues in 1925/26.

He subsequently signed for Torquay United during the Plainmoor club’s first season in the Football League in 1927/28. Making his debut in December 1927 he made seven league appearances (scoring twice) in his first season followed by two more in 1928/29, the last of which was against Exeter City on 23 February 1929. 

Playing briefly for Kettering Town, he moved back to Exeter and later played for Alphington He is also recorded as having played for Bude.
