Local youngster Les Burrows played for Exeter City’s reserves in the mid-1920s before appearing in the Football League for Bristol City and Torquay United.
Aged twenty he is known to have played for the reserves in a friendly against Minehead in January 1926 before featuring for the second-string in the Southern and Western leagues in 1926/27 including scoring in the 6-3 win over Plymouth Argyle on Christmas Day 1926. Also scoring a hat-trick against Yeovil and Petters United, he later signed for the original Taunton Town of the Southern League ahead of the 1928/29 season.
Catching the eye of Bristol City, he made a solitary Football League appearance for the Ashton Gate club at the start of the 1929/30 campaign (when he also played against Exeter’s reserves) before switching to Torquay United where he made two league appearances in the centre-forward position in 1930/31 in addition to scoring the winning goal against Southend United in the FA Cup in November 1930.
Settling back into local football in the Exeter area, he turned out for Friernhay throughout the 1930s and was part of the team that won the DevonSenior Cup on two occasions.
