Russell Hutchings, a winger, played for Exeter City reserves in the Southern and Western leagues on occasions between 1926 and 1929 without making the first-team. He later scored many goals for Tiverton before finishing his career with Silverton..
He is known to have featured for the reserves against Plymouth Argyle’s second-string on Christmas Day 1926 and was still on the scene appearing against Yeovil and Petters United in the Western League in February 1929.
Having already played for Tiverton Town, he now started to appear on a regular basis for the Exe Valley club and playing at centre-forward scored around 170 goals through to the outbreak of war in 1939. Even appearing on a few occasions after the war, he later switched to Silverton where he was a member of the team that won the Devon Intermediate Cup in 1950.
