1928 Hayman
Occupation
Biographical Text
Hayman, a goalkeeper, played once for Exeter City’s reserves in a 12-5 Southern League defeat against Swindon Town reserves at Christmas 1928.
Usually turning out for Exeter side St James, he was drafted in for the reserve fixture at Swindon on 28 December 1928 because regular keeper James Campbell was with the first-team replacing the injured Tom Holland.
In a game when the Grecians scored first, the opening half was a see-saw affair with Swindon 4-3 ahead at the break. Swindon then took an 8-3 lead before a brief revival by City brought the score to 10-5 only for Swindon to net the final two goals of the game. With one of City’s goals scored by Cliff Bastin (of future Arsenal and England fame), press reporting of the game wasn’t kind to the Grecians’ keeper.
