Played at left-back in the practice game at St James Park on 22 August 1914 that was held in aid of the Patriotic Fund a few weeks after the outbreak of the Great War. With uncertainty about reserve team football that season, it is possible that he may have been a trialist for the Southern League team although no more was heard of him after the practice match.
