Biographical Text
Goalkeeper Phil Burns, who had made a dozen Football League appearances for Reading, had a trial with Exeter City during the early months of the 1991/92 season.
He had been a youth player with Huddersfield Town before briefly joining the army. He then signed for Reading in March 1989 where he played twelve times in the league for the first-team before his release in May 1991.
Having recently had a trial at Ipswich, he appeared in a handful of Devon and Exeter League games for Exeter City before signing for Slough Town. Within a few months he joined Airdrieonians for a reported £20,000 fee but did not play in the first-team before returning south to turn out for the new Aldershot Town side, Chesham United and Wokingham Town.
