Alan, a 25-year-old striker from the St.Helens area, had a pre-season trial with Exeter City in July 1996. 

Scoring against Porthleven, he also appeared against Taunton, Portsmouth and Manchester City before heading to home to resume his career with Warrington Town, Haydock and Winsford United where he was managed by former Grecian Mark Came.
