Mike Davis, a former Bristol Rovers striker, played in the pre-season friendlies against Portsmouth and Chelsea in July 1996. Within a few months he had signed for Bath City where he played in excess of 250 games, scoring more than seventy times, over a five-year period.

Playing for Yate Town as a school leaver, he attracted the attention of Aston Villa before joining Bristol Rovers for £15,000 in 1992. Making 17 league appearances (scoring once) for Rovers, he also had a solitary league outing when on loan with Hereford United before leaving the Gas in May 1996. 

Still only twenty-one, and without a club in the summer of 1996, he made his way to Exeter City for an ultimately unsuccessful fortnight's trial. Initially signing for Bangor City, he soon agreed terms with Bath City where he was immediately top scorer in 1996/97 ahead of later spells with Basingstoke Town, Mangotsfield United and Cirencester Town before a return to Yate Town in October 2004.
