Phil Daley, who had Football League experience with Wigan Athletic and Lincoln City played in a pre-season friendly in 1996. He later played for Bangor City and Marine.

Originally with Newton of the West Cheshire League, he had made 161 league appearances (39 goals) for Wigan Athletic and another 32 for Lincoln City scoring five times.

Then aged twenty-nine, he arrived at St James’ Park for a pre-season trial in 1996 and played in a game at Taunton before appearing for Bangor City, TPS in Finland and - back home on Merseyside - Marine.
