John was a reserve team player who played in a friendly against the South West League on Boxing Day 1958.

John played at right-back for the reserves in a South Western League match on the 10th of October 1959 and  28th of November 1959 against Tavistock, at Tavistock, and against Newquay in March 1960.

He played for Ottery St Mary after leaving Exeter City
