Ryan, the son of Steve Guppy who played in goal for City’s reserve team in the early-to-mid 1980s, played for City’s age group teams from the age of eight to sixteen.

He joined Willand as a nineteen-year-old in 2014, after playing in the Devon and Exeter League, and was a member of the Willand Rovers team promoted from the Western League in 2018/19.

With Willand now in the Southern League Ryan continued to be a first-team regular and, by June 2023, he had made nearly four hundred first-team appearances. Continuing with the club, he embarked on his eleventh season at Silver Street at the start of 2024/25.
