Johnny Jansen, then twenty-two, arrived at Exeter City in October 1997 on trial from Dutch club Heerenveen. Soon starting a coaching career he eventually became Heerenveen's manager in the Dutch top-flight.
Johnny's progress was hampered by suffering from diabetes and, after his unsuccessful trial at Exeter, he began to drop down the leagues in the Netherlands before his career took a different direction in 2000 when he started to work in Heerenveen's academy. Working up to academy manager, he then became assistant-manager for the first team and, finally, first-team manager in 2019.
He then coached in Lebanon before returning home to PEC Zwolle followed by time in Indonesia with Bali United.
