Biographical Text

North Devonian Len Pickard, who featured for Exeter City Reserves in 1947/48, later appeared in the Football League for Bristol Rovers and Bradford (Park Avenue).

He signed for Exeter City on amateur forms from Barnstaple Town on 4 October 1947 and made his debut against Torquay in the Southern League Cup four days later when he scored in a 2-2 draw.

He then returned to Barnstaple from where he joined Bristol Rovers and made his league bow on 25 August 1951 when he scored in a 3-3 draw against Shrewsbury Town. Then in his mid-twenties, he made a total of four league appearances for Rovers before enjoying another 76 league outings (31 goals) with Bradford (Park Avenue) between 1953 and 1956.

Also having a brief spell with Bristol City in 1953 where he failed to make the first-team, he later appeared for Bath City before returning to North Devon as player-manager of Bideford.

Len died aged eighy-six in March 2011.
