Jake, who was attending Exmouth Community College, was 14 when he signed as an associate schoolboy for Exeter City.
Originally from Truro, Jake later returned to Cornwall to play for Falmouth Town and, from 2005 to 2016, Truro City. Whilst at Truro Jake appeared in 394 games and scored 59 goals (many from defence), With Truro Jake won promotion six times and the FA Vase in 2007.

From 2009 Jake had been in charge of football development at Penryn College as well as running programmes for the West Cornwall Schools association. In 2019 he was appointed as manager of Mousehole leading the club to promotion to the Western League in 2021. He remained in post as the club made a push towards the Southern League in 2022/23.
