He made his debut for the reserves in the Southern League on the 12th of November1949 against Headington away from home.

He continued to play, occasionally for the Reserves until the end of the season.

Raymond Howe, who joined the City from the St James's Youth Club in November, figured at right half in a much-changed team at Hastings in March 1950.
