Biographical Text

After making around a dozen appearances for Ipswich Town, Kenny Thompson was a regular during his only season for Exeter City before departing for Yeovil Town in the summer of 1967 where he was to play over 500 times.

A junior with Ipswich Town, Kenny turned professional in March 1962 and made 12 league appearances in four years before joining Exeter City on a free transfer in June 1966.

Making his debut in the opening game of the season at  Wrexham on 20 August 1966, Kenny established himself in the number six shirt and appeared in each of the first thirteen league games. Missing four games in October and November, he was soon back in contention and eventually made 38 starts plus one appearance as substitute.

Given a free transfer at the end of the season, Kenny joined Yeovil Town in the summer of 1967 where he was to make in excess of 500 first-team appearances whilst scoring 66 goals. Later appointed player-manager of Chard Town, Kenny was still living in South Somerset when - together with fellow former Grecian Dick Plumb - he was a guest at Yeovil’s match with Torquay on Good Friday 2024.
