John Dempster, from Scotland, played on trial in midfield for Exeter City in a pre-season friendly against Birmingham City on  17 August 2002.

Starting at St Mirrren, and having recently played for Stranraer, he went on to appear for Stenhousemuir and Cowdenbeath as well as playing in Ayrshire junior football for Glenafton and Cumnock.
