Thompson, Stan

Biographical Text

Formerly with Brighton and Hartlepools United,  Alfred 'Stan' Thompson spent a month with  Exeter City at the start of the 1936/37 before returning to Hartlepools.

After playing for his home town club Durham City, Thompson joined Brighton and Hove Albion in 1929. He was mainly a reserve team player during his time on the south coast, going on to make a total of 58 league appearances, scoring 14 goals. He signed for Hartlepools United for the 1935-36 season and scored 11 goals in 34 league outings for them.

Once again Thompson decided to move to the other end of the country as he signed for Exeter City in September 1936. He only played three league games for the Grecians though, the first of which was in a 1-0 win at Torquay United in the same week that he signed for the club.

He stayed for just one month at St James’ Park before returning to Hartlepool United, at the end of October 1936, although he never featured in the league side.
