Steven, from Bridport, played on trial for Exeter City in the South West and Wales Youth League in 1977/78.

Steven returned to Bridport and played as a striker until August 1983 when he moved to Weymouth, who were rebuilding their team after their Giant killing exploits in the previous season.

He was joint manager of Bridport FC in 2011 and in 2018 was part of a three man management team at Lyme Regis.
