1980 Lynch, Mike

Biographical Text

Mike Lynch, a Republic of Ireland youth international from Coventry City, had a short spell with Exeter City in the spring of 1980.

Although it remains unclear whether Mike was a trialist or a loanee, he appeared for Exeter City's reserves in March 1980 before returning to Coventry ahead of him leaving Highfield Road shortly afterwards.

Born in New Zealand, and qualifying for Ireland through his father, he grew up in Australia before trying his luck in Britain as a seventeen-year-old. Successfully winning an apprenticeship with Coventry City, he made appearances for the club in the FA Youth Cup (alongside future England Internationals Danny Thomas and Mark Hateley) and represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level during the 1979/80 season.
