Goalkeeper Phil Hewlett signed for Exeter City on a non-contract basis in 1971. A St Luke's College student, he became one of the best 'keepers in Cornish football.
Signed as an amateur in February 1971 as cover for first-choice goalkeeper Bob Wilson, Phil was a student at St Luke's College. Playing for Falmouth Town on finishing college, he also played for Saltash United and Bodmin Town.
