Richard played on trial for Exeter a City Reserves against Hereford in March 1994, he scored twice, in a 7-3 win, however he was not retained.
Richard was born in Birmingham, and began his football career with Aston Villa in 1987, and turned professional in 1990.
He did not play for 1st team and was on loan to Scunthorpe United in March 1993, where he made 8 apperances.
After leaving Aston Villa in 1994, he trialled at Exeter and later played non-league football for teams including Telford United, Halesowen Town and Stourport Swifts.
