Biographical Text

Richard played on trial for Exeter City Reserves against Hereford United in March 1994. Previously with Aston Villa, he had played in the Football League as a loanee with Scunthopre United. He played non-league football in the Midlands following his brief stay at St James’ Park.  

Becoming a trainee with Aston Villa in 1988, he turned professional in 1990 and spent a spell on loan with Scunthorpe United where he played eight league games. About to be released from Villa after a six-year stay, and now about to celebrate his 22nd birthday, he scored twice for Exeter City in a midweek reserve win over Hereford United late in the 1993/94 campaign. 

Not offered a contract with City, he left the professional game and went on to play for Telford United, Halesowen Town and Stourport Swifts.
