Tony Guard was one of the many players on trial with Exeter City in the 1985/86 season. He had previously appeared in the Football League with Swansea City. 

Becoming a Swansea trainee in 1980, he turned professional in 1982 but only made a single league appearance for the club ahead of moving on to Harrow Borough and Sutton United before spells in Australia, Singapore and Finland. 

Seeking a permanent contract back in Britain, he was unsuccessful with his endeavours with the Grecians.
