Biographical Text
Phil McKnight turned out in a predominantly Exeter City line-up as a guest in Peter Fallon's benefit match in April 1953. Then with Chelsea, he later made over 150 league appearances for Leyton Orient.
Playing for Peter Fallon's XI (listed in the programme as nine Exeter players plus two guests) at left-half against an All-Stars XI, he had served in the Royal Navy during World War II before playing a dozen league games for Alloa Athletic in 1946/47. Moving to Chlesea in 1947, he had thirty-three outings for his new club over a seven year period ahead of five years with Leyton Orient where he made 161 league appearances scoring twice.
Later a coach with Leyton Orient, he appeared for a London XI in the Inter-City Fairs Cup in September 1957 alongside Stan Charlton who had featured for Exeter City reserves in 1951.
Phil died on the 25 May 2018 at the age of age 93.
