1982 Chaplin, David
Biographical Text
David was a youth player at Exeter City in the early 1980s playing, at various times, under the guidance of Chris Davey, Mike Radford and Pete Quarrington.
He was voted City's amateur player of the year in 1982/83 and, on leaving City, had nine years playing for Budleigh Salterton until a ruptured achilles tendon finished his playing career. A resident of Sidmouth, he worked for the Royal Mail with former City first-teamer John Delve.
Sharing his memories with the Grecian Archive, David remembered that:
"It was a pleasure playing for Exeter City and I've some wonderful memories of those times. John Sparrow had arrived from Chelsea on loan and the A team was playing Honiton at St James Park. Their goalkeeper took a goalkick, it landed 10 yards inside our half and I headed it straight back into his arms. John came up to me and said "I've never seen anyone head a ball that far"
