Biographical Text

James Taylor played twice for Exeter City early in the 1928/1929 season. He joined the club from Droylsden and later played for Southport.

Taylor was working as a miner in the Lancashire coalfields until he turned professional. After playing for Ashton Limehurst and Chamber Colliery, he joined Droylsden of the Manchester League for the 1926-27 and 1927-28 seasons and also had a trial for Southport.

He moved to St James’ Park in the summer of 1928 and made his Football League debut for the Grecians against Southend United in September 1928. Although he only played twice for the 1st team he played a large number of games for the reserves at Exeter, in the Western League and Southern League as a half-back

Released at the end of the season, Taylor linked up with Southport.
